This is the epitome of home birth. Real, raw, messy, painful, chaotic and positively blissful. Nikki, I am honored to call you my friend. Thank you for inviting me into your home for such a beautiful family-centered birth. I was born into the hands of a midwife and enthralled by the mystery of birth as far back as I can remember. I knew I wanted to devote my life to midwifery when my mother had her second home birth, the birth of my sweet sister. — I was five, and what I remember most was a deep knowing that my mom needed me, I felt in my spirit that if I could just get into the bedroom with her I could be the midwife and catch my sister. As young girls and women we learn so much from the way our mothers birth their children, we can carry the negative or positive ideas surrounding birth with us and weave them into our own stories. The spiral syncretic birth bonds of mothers and daughters can mirror one another and do, more than we think.. my daughter was born into the hands of a midwife, the birth complications that arose when I was born were the same my daughter experienced during her birth. My daughter has the same innate love of the mysteries of birth and she intends to catch her sibling someday and doula her mama.
